A Padfield Village Sporting Event

The Redgate Coal Race

Will you take the challenge?

BE AMAZING

Last year's event took place on Sunday 11th September; the date for this year's event has not yet been decided.
Entry was £5 for adults and £3 for children (per run). All monies go towards running costs.

A short but gruelling challenge

The 2016 Coal Race

With the success of the previous year's coal race, the 2016 event took place on Sunday 11th September.
There was a great turnout and the fabulous weather really pulled a great crowd for another unique village event brought back in 2015 after a two year hiatus.

The organisers, Dominic and Rachael Bradbury, wanted to do something the for community and what better way than to re-energise a once popular sporting activity known throughout the local area. The event brings people together and encompasses a community spirit enjoyed by all ages, whether 4 or 74 years old. Everyone was keen to support the challengers, to cheer them on their way as they ran full-steam up Redgate with their heavy burdens of coal.

The Coal Race is run in three heats with three runners at a time (depending on numbers). The times are recorded so even if you lose your heat there is very real possibility you might still finish higher than expected. After the race there is a presentation where every participant receive a bottle of beer from Howard Town Brewery and the champions receive the coveted Coal Race trophies.

It costs just £4 to enter and proceeds go to the Padfield Residents' Society.
