Padfield village is a conservation area
Padfield is one of 32 conservation areas in the High Peak, designated for their special architectural and historical interest. The majority of Padfield sits within the boundaries of a conservation area that was first designated on 27 April, 1994. Since then the original designation has been amended more than once, the last via a Character Appraisal and a several month public consultation process, which resulted in an extension of the previous boundaries.

It covers every aspect of the village in two main parts, broken down further into several sections. Throughout, the document is accompanied by illustrative ordnance survey maps, historical maps, black and white photos and many present-day photos that aid the descriptive elements. It provides insightful information and establishes the new extension to the conservation area boundaries.

The extended conservation area boundaries now include:
- The Padfield Brook and No. 90 Platt Street including garden;
- The allotments and the millpond;
- The modern houses of Nos. 111-133 Platt Street;
- The entire frontage of terraced cottages and modern houses, including gardens, on the north side of Platt Street from the junction with Post Street down to the entrance to the old stone quarry.
