Support in the Community

During climates of financial hardships and personal worries brought about by difficult circumstances, it may not be immediately apparent that someone we may know, or that person that passed by in the street could be going through challenging times or maybe just needs a shoulder to cry on.  In Glossopdale there is The Bureau, a nationally accredited volunteer centre that has evolved over the last 20 years, delivering a wide variety of services.

In their own words:
"The Bureau works with the belief that all members of the community will have both support needs of their own and the capacity to support others at various times in their lives – in some cases simultaneously. It is our mission to identify and link together community needs and solutions to enable people to live independently and improve the quality of life for local communities.

"Our mission is to work with communities across Glossopdale in order to identify and respond to local needs. We do this by developing services and solutions that can be delivered through effective voluntary action and partnership working with community groups, voluntary agencies and the statutory sector.

"The Bureau works with the belief that all members of the community will have both support needs of their own and the capacity to support others at various times in their lives, in some cases simultaneously. Our services aim to link local needs and resources to enable people to live independently and improve the local quality of life."

They can be contacted at the following:
  • The Bureau, Bank House, 22 Henry Street, Glossop, SK13 8BW

Glossopdale Foodbank is a locally run charity that provides emergency food for families and individuals that are enduring financial difficulties. The foodbank has helped many people since it's inception with a small dedicated team of volunteers that work throughout the week (not at all locations) and see how businesses and school can help out too. The foodbank accepts food, time and monetary donations as fresh food cannot be donated and volunteers help distribute the food parcels.

The people of Glossopdale have generously donated food at various different food donation points across the community and this is something that needs to continue in these difficult times to ensure as many people living with financial difficulties have access to food. If you or your family are going through tough times and wondering when the next meal is,  please consider getting in touch with the foodbank and see if they can help.

The current co-ordinator is Charlotte Mendes-Kelly and she can be contacted using the following:
  • Glossopdale Foodbank, c/o The Bureau, Bank House, 22 Henry Street, Glossop, SK13 8BW.
  • Telephone: 07811 684282
  • Email: [email protected]

In 2022 Glossopdale Foodbank provided 52,578 meals to over 3,745 adults and 2,097 children..
