Primary education in the heart of the village
Padfield Community Primary School
"We believe that education is a partnership between home and school and that when your children join us, we will be continuing the process which has begun at home. We consider our school to be a team, which includes Governors, teaching and support staff, parents and children.
"If you have not yet had the opportunity to visit Padfield School, I do hope you will accept my invitation to come and see the fun and varied learning opportunities we have to offer in a caring family environment." Anne Moore - Headteacher
The school
Padfield Community Primary School is a small, friendly school in the heart of Padfield on the outskirts of Glossop, which is edged by the Peak District National Park. It is a hub of learning for our younger generation, provided by a team of dedicated staff right in the heart of the village.
The school is uniquely situated, located on an elevated position that affords stunning views of neighbouring Hadfield, Tintwistle, Bottoms Reservoir and part of the Longdendale Valley. Built by the Rhodes family, it opened as a County Day School on 23 May 1887. Over the years the school building has seen several changes, one such change being room partitioning to maximise the space of relatively small area. Other changes that were key to the overall development of the school involved expansion, sympathetic to the surrounding area, and implemented to cater for the needs of the school and, more importantly, the quality of schooling for its pupils. More recent improvements to the school include a library and disabled toilet facilities.

Admissions and the Curriculum
Admissions
The standard number for the school's intake into the Reception class is 16 as decided by Derbyshire County Council.
The Governors have adopted the County Policy on admissions, a copy of which is available for you to view online on their admission arrangements page.
Curriculum
The curriculum is the total of all the learning experiences provided by the school for your child. The schools aims to provide a broad, balanced curriculum at all stages of its pupil's development through which they will be able to reach their full potential and develop their individual talents, interests and skills.
Staff use the programmes of study laid down in the National Curriculum and the Early Year Foundation Stage Curriculum as the basis for planning the pupil's education, whilst making the curriculum as meaningful as possible.
A topic or themed approach is used to make links between different subjects as the school believes this makes learning relevant and enjoyable. The school also uses the local environment and conducts educational visits to enhance the pupil’s engagement and understanding. It is committed to developing the pupil's skills for learning alongside their personal and social skills.

Assessment
Careful monitoring and evaluating ensures that the work is matched to the pupil and targets are set in reading, writing and maths, which are evaluated regularly to ensure the pupils are appropriately challenged.
During the first half term in school pupils are assessed to help us ensure that their needs are considered in the planning of the curriculum and are met through its delivery. Reception children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, which starts in Nursery and continues into Year 1. They are assessed against this profile regularly.
Statutory assessment tests (SATs) are taken at the end of Year Two and Year Six and non-statutory tests may be used throughout Key Stage Two. These are used to inform teacher assessments, which are made continually throughout the year. Expectations are high and children are constantly challenged to reach their full potential in all areas of the curriculum.

Road safety

The school constantly strives to ensure the safety of its pupils. To help out, the school ask that parents walk to school whenever possible and always encourage children to scoot and follow the school safety rules. If it is impractical to walk or scoot please do not drive or park on Post Street as this causes congestion and puts all children at risk. We ask that you park on Platt Street or in the car park at The Peel’s Arms and walk to the school from there.
Padfield is now a "20's plenty" community, with the 20mph speed restriction enforced throughout the entirety of the village.
