Padfield Winter News
It may not be the Festive season everyone expected, but Christmas is on its way! Sadly, due to the ongoing health crisis, some of our traditional events cannot happen, but we’re going to bring some cheer to Padfield anyway! There will not be a Christmas Fair in the Chapel this year – but – there will be gifts available online!
Padfield is going digital with books and calendars available! Although, there will be no Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner at the Peels, there are rumours that a socially distanced Santa is warming up the reindeers and will be arriving in Padfield in Christmas week – hurray!! So, if there are any children new to the village this year, please let Janis know as soon as possible on 01457 861542. However you choose to spend Christmas, have a safe and happy Festive Season!
Father Christmas will visit on Tuesday 22nd December from 6:30pm. As usual our bearded bearer of Christmas joy will bring a small gift to each child age 11 years and under. Please be aware that you will not be able to come up close this year but you will certainly get a cheery wave and a gift from father Christmas on your doorstep.
Seasons’ greetings to all Padfielders, and a big ‘Hello’ to those of you who have recently moved into this great little village in the High Peak. Come and get involved in village life, support the community and help keep Padfield the great place it is. If you'd like to meet us "in the flesh" - well you can’t at the moment! But you can come to our meetings on Zoom on the second Monday of every month at 8.00pm.
We would also like to say a BIG thank you to Sheila Wynne who has served on this committee for a great many years and has now decided to hang up her hat. Thanks especially for all those cups of tea, Sheila.

Delayed Annual Litter Pick
The litter pick which we co-ordinated in September was very well attended and we want to thank all who helped. We have noticed too that some folk have been collecting any litter they see on their daily exer cise walks. It’s great to keep Padfield looking good. Thanks for all your outstanding efforts.
Green Space
You may have read in the local newspaper that Padfield residents were successful in their bid to purchase the green space next to the Recreation Ground. The group who were responsible for the successful bid is the Padfield Open Spaces Group. This is not the Residents’ Society, but we give them our full support and backing. Just now the group are battling with all the necessary legalities that will enable us all to be a part of this exciting project. They will be able to give us all more information in due course.
Books and Calendars
The Residents' Society was very proud and excited to publish 'A Portrait of Padfield' several years ago. We are even more excited to announce that the re-print of this excellent book on the history of Padfield is still available. It’s a great read – full of photos and interesting facts – and a perfect Christmas present. Similarly, we also have a number of Padfield 2021 Calendars for sale – featuring some beautiful photos submitted by Padfield residents. Both of these items are available for you to buy. Any questions, please don't hesitate to give Janis a ring on 01457 861542.
Padfield Lottery
Don't forget the Padfield Lottery is open to all. Subscriptions for 2021 will be due soon! This is £10 for the whole year with the chance of winning £15 every month. This raises a little money for the Residents Society as well as giving every one involved the chance of a little surprise every month. This year, we won’t be collecting cash. Payment can be made by cheque or bank transfer. Details will be sent to all existing members. If you want to take part in 2021, please let anyone involved in Padfield Residents' Society know.

Padfield Impromptu
The Padfield Impromptu will take place in the chapel from 7pm until about 10pm on Friday 8th March. We hope you might come up with some good ideas for entertaining the masses. Janis has spoken to the Padfield WI to do their latest rendition, and another duo has volunteered to do a turn as well. Perhaps we can come up with something jointly or you may have ideas for individual performances!! It's always good fun to get involved in this and it certainly doesn't need to be high-brow or polished!
New Notice Board
This week Janis got a letter from Derbyshire County Council. It said that we have been allocated £300 from George and Jean's community fund to pay for a new notice board. There are certain terms and conditions, one of which says that we must use the money within 3 months and that it can only be used for the notice board and nothing else. Janis ran into Mike Foley (Bankswood Builders from the Old Liberal Club) recently and asked him if he could recommend a carpenter who would make one for us. He said that he would recommend himself as woodworking is his speciality. Janis has seen his work before and knows it's of high quality. He is going to look at the old notice board and give us a quote.
The Sheep Hunt
The Sheep Hunt will not be until after the Easter Holiday, so probably in May. Sarah and Ian are busy cutting sheep from plywood and then apparently they have to be dressed!!! More on this soon.
New Venue for the Resident Society Meetings
As of Monday 14th January the Residents Society will now meet in The Chapel instead of the Peels Arms. The meeting still takes place on the second Monday of every month at the usual time of 8pm.
Padfield Photographic Competition/Exhibition
The date for the exhibition is Saturday 9th February. This event is to celebrate 25 years of the Residents' Society in it's present format.
On the 2nd February the chapel will be open from 10am till 4pm for people to bring their photos along. Photos should be of Padfield and its environs. They can be from any date - late 1800s up till 2019. Hard copies would be much appreciated, but photos on memory sticks or CDs will also be acceptable. Through the following week the photos will be carefully displayed.
On the 9th February the exhibition will be open in the chapel to members of the public from 10am till 4 pm. There will be no entry fee and refreshments will be available, but donations will be much appreciated by both the Residents' Society and the chapel. Throughout the day there will also be opportunities for folk to buy a ticket for the PRS Silver Raffle. The prizes are 1. a 3-course meal for 2 at the Windy Harbour Hotel; 2. an afternoon tea for 2 at the Windy Harbour Hotel; 3. a free car wash courtesy of Scott Carhart. The raffle will be drawn around 3.30pm on the same afternoon.

Residents' consultation for proposed changes to speed limits beyond village boundaries
The Residents' Society would like to go through a consultation process with residents of the village with aims of proposing some amendments beyond the 20 mph speed limits already in place. Every resident of Padfield is welcome to join in and comment on the proposals that we discuss in more detail on this page.
Padfield Coal Race
This year's event has been set for Sunday 9th September.
Make a note of this date in your diaries. It would be great to see as many people as possible cheer and support those taking part. Tell your friends and family to come along and be a part of something different and, if you feel up to the challenge, why not put your name forward for the race itself. You can do so by registering on the day. Entry is £3 per run and you get a free bottle of Howard Town ale for taking part in this unique event. All monies go towards running costs.
The event organisers are looking for helpers such as Marshals and timekeepers. Keep an eye on the Padfield Facebook page for posts. After the race we'll post the results and photos on the main Padfield Coal Race page.
